Yellowjacket 802.11b/g Wi-Fi Analyzer
Yellowjacket® is a calibrated wireless receiver module that interfaces with HP’s
iPAQ® PocketPC® in sweeping, analyzing and optimizing 2.4
GHz Wi-Fi Networks. The receiver measures all 14 OFDM/DSSS network
channels
which operate on the IEEE 802.11b/g standard allowing the user to determine
the AP’s MAC, SSID and RSSI signal levels for all access points
on or off any 802.11b/g WISP or Hotspot. The Yellowjacket® system
uses a custom receiver, custom software and interfaces with an
iPAQ
giving Yellowjacket® the
distinction of being the only true RF spectrum protocol analysis and
direction finding tool
accurate
to within 1 dB. Berkeley’s calibrated receiver sweeps and measures
all RF energy in the 2.4 GHz range as well as on each of the 14 OFDM/DSSS
channels for detailed network inspection of any nearby 802.11b/g APs
or STAs. Yellowjacket® is a passive, network independent device
with the ability to see the “whole picture” as well as
pinpointing channel interference and hackers that plague so many
802.11b/g WISPs
and Hotspots. Yellowjacket®
can contain an optional 12-channel GPS receiver for realtime GPS data
so
that every 802.11b/g measurement is time/date/location stamped for
post analysis using spreadsheets or Berkeley's own Dolphin™ mapping
coverage analysis software.

The YellowJacket Data Logger is a software
application for Windows® CE that displays, records and logs all
WLAN data received by the YellowJacket® on
the iPAQ® PocketPC® PDA. The software allows complete
control of the YellowJacket IEEE 802.11 scanner. Data can be saved
on the iPAQ for later replay and conversion. YellowJacket® runs Hive Indoor Mapping Software which allows the users to create , modify and plot measurements in
real-time all on a PocketPC®.

- Does
the YellowJacket do both 802.11b and 802.11g studies?
-
- Yes,
the calibrated Yellowjacket receiver can detect and demodulate both
802.11b and 802.11g packets.
- What
is the difference between Yellowjacket 802.11b/g and the original
Yellowjacket 802.11b?
-
- The
Yellowjacket 802.11b/g performs all of the same measurements as
the
original Yellowjacket 802.11b except for advanced multipath, delay spread and "geiger" measurements.
- How
do I get GPS data for my 802.11 measurements?
-
- Yellowjacket
802.11b/g PLUS model contains an internal 12-channel GPS receiver
for use in outdoor drive-studies for example.
- How
do I update my Yellowjacket?
-
- Yellowjacket
ships with CD-ROM software and a Secur Digital backup software install
card. In addition, Yellowjacket software that has been erased from
RAM (usually by leaving the iPAQ uncharged for some time) may be restored
at anytime by accessing the “reinst.exe” file from the
\\iPAQ File Store\\Yellow Jacket directory.
