Yellowjacket® is a wireless receiver module designed to work with HP's iPAQ® PocketPC® in sweeping, analyzing and optimizing 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. The receiver measures all 14 DSSS network channels which operate on the IEEE 802.11b standard allowing the user to determine the AP (Access Point), PER (Packet Error Rate), SNR (Signal-to-Noise), Multipath (Ec/Io), Delay Spread, Channel Frequency Response, SSID and RSSI signal levels aiding in locating the hub and access points of neighboring WLANs. Yellowjacket¨ allows those familiar with the iPAQ's PocketPC interface a unique advantage over "software only" products currently available because Yellowjacket¨ functions as a complete WLAN analysis system combining the ubiquitous PocketPC environment along with Berkeley's precision receiver technology.

The YellowJacket Data Logger is a software
application for Windows® CE that displays, records and logs all
WLAN data received by the YellowJacket® on
the iPAQ® PocketPC® PDA. The software allows complete
control of the YellowJacket receiver. Data can be saved
on the iPAQ for later replay and conversion. YellowJacket® runsHive Indoor Mapping Software which allows the users to create , modify and plot measurements in
real-time all on a PocketPC®.

- Does
the YellowJacket do both 802.11b and 802.11g studies?
-
- No,
the calibrated Yellowjacket 802.11b receiver can only detect and demodulate 802.11b packets. For 802.11g packet detection, see the Yellowjacket 802.11b/g receiver.
-
- What
is the difference between Yellowjacket 802.11b and the
Yellowjacket 802.11b/g?
-
- Both receivers perform similar measurements but Yellowjacket 802.11b also performs advanced multipath, signal-to-noise, delay spread and "geiger" measurements.
-
- How
do I get GPS data for my 802.11 measurements?
-
- Yellowjacket
802.11b PLUS model contains an internal 12-channel GPS receiver
for use in outdoor drive-studies for example.
- How
do I update my Yellowjacket?
-
- Yellowjacket
ships with CD-ROM software and a Secur Digital backup software install
card. In addition, Yellowjacket software that has been erased from
RAM (usually by leaving the iPAQ uncharged for some time) may be restored
at anytime by accessing the “reinst.exe” file from the
\\iPAQ File Store\\Yellow Jacket directory.
