YellowFin Tablet

For the following questions, “Unit” refers to your YellowFin receiver module.

Battery life and protectionHow Do I maximize battery run time and lifetime?

Recharge – Recharge your unit’s and Tablet PC’s batteries monthly.  Keeping the unit permanently connected to the external charger power supply in NOT recommended.

Windows™ Power Settings – Check (under the Windows™ Control Panel’s Power Settings) that the Tablet PC is set to NEVER Sleep, Hibernate or Standby.  A Tablet PC in Sleep, Hibernate or Standby cannot monitor the Unit’s battery.

Dragnet Software Upgrade – Upgrade your Dragnet Collector Software (if purchased with your YellowFin unit) to v 1.10.01 or later. Earlier versions left the unit powered after the program was shutdown.

 

Communications: My unit is not communicating with the Tablet PC – what can I do?

Power your unit from the external AC power supply.

Check that the USB cable is connected between the Unit and the Tablet PC.

Unplug and plug the USB cable to verify that the USB Driver is installed.

Remove any Ethernet cables connected to the Unit.  An Ethernet Cable connected to the Unit will disable USB communications.

Battery Power not functional My unit works properly from AC power, but is not operating from the internal Batteries – what can I do?

Reset the Battery Pack:

Power the Unit from the AC power supply. 

Momentarily press (less than 1 second) the recessed Battery Reset Button (see your manual for exact location) on the bottom of the unit.

Remove the Unit’s connector to the AC power supply.

Repower the Unit from the AC power supply.  The Green Status Light should “Flash”; if it does not “Flash” the above battery reset procedure may be tried for a maximum of 3 times.

Allow to charge for at least 1 hour and then try operating the Unit from battery power.

Contact BVS Technical Support for additional support.

 

Status Lights: The LED lights on the back of the Unit – What do they Indicate?

Red LED: “ON” – Unit is on and able to communicate.
                  “OFF” – Unit is off and is NOT able to communicate.

Green LED:    “ON” - Unit is connected to external supply and fully charged.
                        “OFF” - Unit is not connected to external supply.
                        “Flashing” – Unit is connected to external supply and charging.

 

Shipping and unit careHow should I pack the Unit for shipping?

Ship the unit in the Factory supplied case with the supplied padding.  Remove the USB connector from both the Unit and Tablet PC when shipping.  Remove all antennas and power supplies connected to the unit and Tablet PC.

 

Windows™ Power Setting: How do I change Windows™ power settings?

Vista Tablet:

Click on Start > Control Panel > System and maintenance > Power Options. Click on "change plan settings" under the selected plan.  Change both sleep settings to never.

Next click "change advanced power settings".  Expand "Power buttons and lid" in the list.  Expand "power button action" and change both to shut down.  Then expand "Start menu power button" and change both settings to shut down.

XP Tablet:

            Click on Start > Control Panel > Power Options icon (in the classic view).

            Set System Standby/Sleep/Hibernate to NEVER.

 

No Signals DetectedMy YellowFin is not Detecting any Signals in the WiMAX DEMODULATION Screen – Help?

Check the Instrument’s Settings under the WiMAX Menu:
Channel List – verify that your frequency is in the Channel List.
Bandwidth/FFT Samples – verify that the proper bandwidth and FFT size is selected.

Check that your antenna/cable is properly attached and that the antenna/cable’s SMA male pin is not bent or missing.

 

No Signals DetectedMy YellowFin is not Detecting any Signals/Interferers in the SPECTRUM Mode – Help?

Check the Instrument’s Settings:
Center Frequency – verify that it is set to the center of your channel/signal.
Span – Verify that it is set to at least the span of your channel/signal.
Trace – Verify that at least 1 Trace is set to LIVE.

Trigger and Peak Hold: Many signals/interferers transmit only periodically and may be “on” for short amounts of time.  Use the Trigger Mode or Trace Peak Hold to detect and measure these types of signals.  See your manual for more details.

Reference Level:  Adjust the Reference Level lower to detect weaker signals.

Check that your antenna/cable is properly attached and that the antenna/cable’s SMA male pin is not bent or missing.
